Seth M. Weigand, a Republican from Lamar County, is an attorney. He’s seeking a fourth term in Congress.

“I feel very strongly that the climate and the political climate in America has changed dramatically and our country is on the wrong course,” he told The Texas Tribune. “It is no longer a place where people would just be able to say whatever they want to say to each other, and I think that’s the fear that I hear from a lot of voters.”

He believes that if a growing number of Americans are unhappy with how the government is handling the country’s environmental and energy policies, they could elect someone who will push back against those policies.

“I think it is in our best interest to try to limit the abuses of government,” he said. “If we could limit those abuses, people might be willing to turn to government differently.”

Democrats have made it clear that they want to vote out of fear of a climate of hostility, said Rep. Seth Weigand, who has worked to secure clean energy tax credits in his state.

“We want people to vote for the person that can make a difference and be willing to stand up for Texas,” he said. “I believe that we have great people that would fit that bill.”

Weigand is seeking a fourth election to the House of Representatives, representing a district that stretches from San Antonio to Corpus Christi and includes communities like Luling and San Benito.
