Buffy Sainte-Marie shines despite sabotage in new documentary ‘Carry It On’
The New Yorker’s love-hate relationship with the Buffyverse has been ongoing for years.
Back in 2004, she penned a very public lament for “Joss Whedon and the World of Buffy.” She even threatened the very existence of the show with a letter to the editor.
In 2009, she expressed admiration for the show’s final episode.
Since then, she has continued to love it, but she hasn’t fully bought in.

Sainte-Marie and her friends took to social media to slam the show’s writers for killing her character.
It was then that the Internet began to turn against the show, and fans began to call the series a’slasher movie.’
However, with her fandom, Sainte-Marie began to think.
Her obsession with the show and the fans’ vitriol only drove her further away from the show, she said in a new documentary called ‘Carry It On.’

She admits that she was part of a ‘cult’ of fans who worshipped a fictional character, but which she eventually began to realize was just an ideal.
Sainte-Marie’s love of the show has been growing since the beginning of her friendship with her co-star Joss Whedon. But her relationship with the show that she’s called her life, changed a lot over the years.
