129 dead after fans stampede to exit Indonesian soccer match
Indonesian fans have stampede out of a soccer game in Sukabumi, Indonesia. The game was played between the Indonesian national team and Al Ahly from Egypt and the results were decided in a penalty shootout.
Hundreds of fans ran out of the Sukabumi soccer stadium onto the streets in a stampede, which involved nearly 100 people, according to witnesses.
Witnesses said several people were injured including women and children as well as three people who required hospitalization after being trampled. One of the injured people was quoted by the BBC as saying: “There was a stampede from the ground to the street. It was really scary. We had no idea what was happening.”
