I Want to Be a Part of the Bay Area

Letters to the Editor: Concrete channels won’t save L.A. in a mega-flood. What was paved over might not be able to withstand a deluge

I’m one of those who wants to move to the Bay Area. I’m also in a position to say this, as well as not say it: I grew up in San Jose and my family still owns a house there. I have friends, and even colleagues who live in San Jose.

That’s where a lot of my political friends, as well as those in power, live. I am also familiar with the geography and history of the area. I know how it got here and where it is going. Yet, I believe San Jose to be a disaster area.

I love the history of the San Francisco Bay Area, and I consider that to be a big part of the reason I moved to the Bay from New England. The Bay Area has a rich history — of immigrants and pioneering industrialists, such as Alexander Graham Bell, who built the telephone company in San Jose.

But now it is my personal desire to see the Bay Area and Los Angeles become one. The Bay Area has a unique identity, and I want to be one of those who calls Los Angeles home. I want to be a part of the Bay Area.

The reality is that the San Francisco Bay Area is one of the most economically diverse areas in the world. What we call the Silicon Valley economy has always been diverse, in that the areas around San Francisco were built with the needs of industry in mind.
